About Us & History
The Lumen Group of Companies was founded by Francois Engelbrecht (click for more on Francois) in 2004 in Bellville, Cape Town. Initially, the company specialized in large-scale residential electrical contracts for major building contractors across the Western Cape, successfully completing hundreds of new residential electrical installations under the name Electraforce during its first few years. However, the company faced tough competition from BEE-accredited companies, while we offered lower prices but they still managed to secure the contracts.
After a period of reduced activity, the company shifted its focus to residential electrical maintenance and installations for private property owners, where BEE requirements are not a factor. This strategic decision allowed us to build a strong reputation in Cape Town, becoming a trusted name for clients’ electrical maintenance and installation needs.
As the business grew, so did the need for expansion. We saw an opportunity to broaden our services by adding plumbing maintenance and installations, which led to the rebranding of the company to Revma Electrical and Plumbing. With a team of qualified and skilled plumbers, we steadily expanded our client base and gained the trust of many satisfied customers throughout Cape Town.
Over time, we expanded further into small-scale construction and property maintenance projects, which we successfully completed with our versatile staff. This prompted us to officially incorporate these services into our offerings, and we rebranded once again, becoming Canman Trades. We added experts from the building and maintenance industry to our team and began offering property maintenance, home improvements, renovations, and small-scale construction. Our rapid growth in these areas established us as an industry leader in Cape Town, known for our excellent workmanship and satisfied clients.
As our company continued to evolve, we recognized the need to separate our electrical and plumbing services into their own dedicated division. This led to the creation of Redline Electrical and Marcopolo Plumbing, specialized divisions with their own teams, focusing solely on electrical and plumbing services. This restructuring further strengthened our online presence and allowed us to provide even more focused and effective services in Cape Town.
Recognizing additional opportunities for growth, we expanded into computer support, services, and repairs. We welcomed skilled technicians into the group, leading to the formation of Geeks Digital. This new branch now serves Cape Town with enthusiasm, providing expert computer support, services, and repairs.
Later, with a need for further expansion, we ventured into the second-hand car sales sector. We brought professionals from the trade into the group to focus on this new business. Vero Motors was established, and so far, everything is going well.
Today, the Lumen Group of Companies comprises Canman Trades, Redline Electrical, Marcopolo Plumbing, Geeks Digital, and Vero Motors. Each is a registered CIPC (Pty) Ltd company, together forming a comprehensive group.
